Apply to solve a CivTech Challenge

A CivTech Challenge is a real problem identified by a public sector organisation, where no solution currently exists.

Instead of specifying a solution, the organisation sets out the problem in the form of a Challenge. Applicants are invited to propose innovative approaches and work collaboratively to develop a viable solution. 

Each Challenge is supported by a Challenge Sponsor — the organisation that owns the problem and works closely with particpants throughout the process.

CivTech is open to everyone:

• Individuals

• Existing start-ups

• Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs)

• Larger or more-established companies and organisations

You don’t even need to be a company to apply — individuals and early-stage teams are welcome. However, teams that are selected for the Accelerator will be expected to form a limited company.

You don’t need any previous public sector experience — just a strong idea and the capability to develop it.

• Get paid to develop and refine your solution

• Work directly with a public sector organisation

• Co-design products with an active customer

• Access opportunities for further development and future contracts

Our next set of Challenges will launch late summer 2026.

• Submit your proposal before the deadline

• Shortlisted applicants will be invited to develop their proposals through a paid Exploration Stage in January 2027

• Selected teams win a place on the paid CivTech Accelerator from February 2027, where they build a working prototype with their Challenge Sponsor
