Find out how we can help you solve your biggest challenges

CivTech 10 is coming!

We’re launching another round of CivTech Challenges in June 2024.

We already have a lot of interest from organisations with Challenges for CivTech 10, but if you are a Public or Third Sector organisation with a problem you want to solve, there is time to get involved.

The first step in developing a CivTech Challenge is to get in touch with one of the Team’s Innovation Managers, by emailing civtech@gov.scot

Becoming a
Challenge Sponsor

CivTech’s mantra as a challenge-based approach to innovation is ‘start with the problem and not the solution’.

If you are interested in developing a Challenge you might wonder what that means in practice. Our Challenge definition process is how we work with organisations to develop Challenges and get them ready to be part of a CivTech process. Each potential Challenge we work on is different so the approach will vary for each issue, but the basic steps are as follows:

Step 1 – An initial discussion with an Innovation Manager

During an initial informal chat we will ask you to explain more about the issue you are focused on, and if you have looked for any existing solutions. Our Innovation Managers will explain more about the process and costs, and agree whether to proceed to Step 2.

Step 2 – Challenge Workshop

Depending on the requirements of your challenge we can hold either an exploratory workshop (including any stakeholders you may wish to engage) or a definition workshop. These workshops aim to work towards developing an Expression of Interest form.

Step 3 – Expression of Interest

Our Expression of Interest form captures the outline details of any Challenge. If we are over subscribed for a cohort we will use the Expression of Interests to select Challenges into a cohort.

Step 4 – Detailed Challenge Preparation

After review of the expression of interests successful Challenges will work with the CivTech Team to prepare all the collateral to publish Challenges including; a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the CivTech Team, relevant procurement documentation and Challenge Videos.

It all starts with a conversation, so if you are interested email civtech@gov.scot to arrange a chat.
