Celebrating innovation at Demo Day 7

We were delighted to bring together our CivTech 7 Challenge Teams, Challenge Sponsors, Partners, and industry stakeholders for our 7th annual Demo Day on 8th February 2023, streamed live from the Assembly Rooms in Edinburgh.

Deputy Programme Director, Barbara Mills

This event gave each of our brilliant Challenge Teams a platform to share the innovative solutions they have been developing throughout our 15-week Accelerator, with support from our Challenge Sponsors, and Partners. As the full event was live-streamed, we were able to welcome innovators and industry stakeholders from around the world to see each of the solutions in action.

The event was opened by Mr Ivan McKee, Minister for Business, Trade, Tourism and Enterprise. During his keynote speech, he announced a £10 million funding boost for the year ahead. We’re so grateful for this support and can’t wait to get started on the next set of Challenges.

Following the keynote speech, the companies took the stage. You can watch all their pitches here.

In between the presentations, we had an enlightening speech from the Minister for Children and Young People, Scottish Government- Clare Haughey MSP. She shared her thoughts on how #TechForGood can make positive impacts in our lives. You can watch the speech here.

We also had a fireside chat with CivTech Deputy Programme Director Barbara Mills, Jane Martin from Scottish Enterprise, Garry Legg from South of Scotland Enterprise, and Philippa Vigano from Nature Scot. The group held a powerful conversation about the usefulness of the “Innovate for” series that has emerged from the CivTech process, and how useful inventions can positively impact society on a mass scale.  They also discussed the power of collaborations in terms of providing solutions, making reference to the companies and sponsors who have partnered to create problem solving inventions.

We’re so proud of how far our Challenge Teams have come over the last nine months. If you see an innovation you’d be interested in exploring, do feel free to reach out to the Teams. All details can be found here .

And remember - this time next year, this could be you on stage! You do not have to be an established company to put yourself forward. All we ask is that you have an innovative idea for a tech solution to solve one of our Challenges and the enthusiasm to turn it into a reality!
