Where Are They Now: Looper

Looper, a CivTech 8 company, recently completed its Pre-Commercial Agreement (PCA) stage. We caught up with co-founders Yiqiang Zhao and Shashwat Ganguly to learn more about their journey and their incredible tech.

Here’s what they had to say:

Looper, presenting at CivTech 8 Demo Day

We recently completed the PCA stage with CivTech and as co-founders of Looper, we wanted to share our experience and the incredible impact that CivTech has had on the growth of our company.

When we first joined CivTech, the Challenge focused on using technology to support circular economy models and net zero goals - a complex task! Working with South of Scotland Enterprise (SOSE) and Zero Waste Scotland, we developed Looper to help companies embed sustainability into their operations.

Our software generates detailed carbon emission data across sectors like construction. For example, architects and engineers can use Looper to accurately calculate emissions for their projects. This is hugely impactful considering 95% of companies lack this critical information.

Typically, obtaining carbon data is an arduous and expensive process, often costing thousands of pounds. Looper simplifies this with our user-friendly interface and powerful Artificial Intelligence (AI) algorithms that efficiently process that data.

We are currently testing with 43 SOSE businesses before an official launch in 2024. With very positive early feedback, we are confident that Looper will grow and expand not only in the UK, but around the world.

CivTech has been invaluable, helping us evolve from an early stage concept to a refined, market-ready solution. While we had domain expertise, we needed support building business acumen.

With backing from SOSE and Zero Waste Scotland, plus access to CivTech's extensive network, our company has scaled up. We're hiring more talent and collaborating on major construction projects.

As we've said, being a CivTech company has helped us tremendously. We're proud that startups like Looper can leverage this world-class infrastructure. Check out our top notch Demo Day pitch here to learn more!

In the next six to twelve months, we aim to expand into other UK regions before setting our sights on international expansion. The CivTech Accelerator funding has also enabled our involvement in high-profile construction projects like HS2 and the Heathrow expansion.

We are extremely grateful for the invaluable support we’ve received from CivTech, SOSE, Zero Waste Scotland, and the wider network. It has truly accelerated our growth and impact.
